Official master’s or continuing education: check the programme before enrolling
Before enrolling, identify the qualification, university and official status. Compare the programme with the academic or professional goal you want to achieve.

Two programmes can both use the word master’s while serving different goals. Price, length and a familiar brand do not tell you exactly which qualification you will receive. Before enrolling, identify the full award name and compare it with what you need to achieve.
The award’s name matters
Royal Decree 822/2021 distinguishes official university qualifications from university-specific awards, including the Máster de Formación Permanente. These are different categories and must not be presented as interchangeable. Check Articles 3, 36 and 37.
That does not make one category automatically a good purchase and the other a bad one. Start with your goal: learning a technique, changing sectors, meeting an academic condition or pursuing research. The programme needs to fit that purpose.
Check the exact qualification, not only the institution
The RUCT contains information on universities, centres and official qualifications. A university can offer different kinds of study, so search for the specific award. Read about the public register.
Save the full name, responsible centre and intake information. If marketing material and academic information use different names, request written clarification before paying. Check who issues the final document, particularly when several organisations are involved.
What to compare before paying an enrolment fee
- The qualification awarded and the issuing institution.
- Programme category and learning objective.
- Entry requirements and admission procedure.
- Content, teaching format and assessment.
- Total price, reservation fees and cancellation terms.
- The effect you need to demonstrate to another organisation.
Do not infer a particular professional or academic effect from a phrase such as internationally recognised. Ask what it means for your intended use and check with the institution that will require the qualification.
Check the next step before committing
If you intend to progress to another academic level or meet an employment condition, consult that destination before enrolling. A precise answer about the future requirement is more useful than a general promise about career opportunities.
If studying in person also means moving to Spain, prepare separate questions about immigration and arrival timing. Be clear about the academic choice before building the rest of the move around it.
