Civil and family law

Inheritance and succession

An inheritance brings together personal decisions, documents and legal obligations. We help you understand the estate, your options and how to organise the distribution and related formalities.

How we can help

Wills and initial documents

We review available certificates, the will and the family circumstances to identify the initial steps. If there is no will, we assess the documents and procedure needed to establish who may inherit.

Assets, debts and acceptance

We prepare an inventory of assets and liabilities before considering acceptance, acceptance with the benefit of inventory or renunciation. We explain each option’s consequences and formal requirements so that decisions are not based on incomplete information.

Distribution and disagreements

We work on a proposed distribution and review entitlements under the applicable succession rules. If there are disagreements, we assess negotiation options and the steps needed to protect your position.

Tax coordination and formalisation

We coordinate civil-law questions with the tax team and define the work involving notaries and registries. If assets, residence or documents span several countries, we identify the additional checks the matter requires.

Frequently asked questions

What if I do not yet know all the debts?

Reviewing the inventory and acceptance options before taking steps with inheritance consequences is advisable. The decision depends on the estate, liabilities and any actions already taken.

Do the same rules apply to every inheritance in Spain?

Not necessarily. The applicable civil rules and tax treatment must be assessed separately using the relevant connecting factors. We do not assume a standard distribution or tax calculation.
