Administrative appeals

Before challenging an administrative decision, it helps to understand its reasons and the available options. We review the decision and supporting file to prepare a reasoned response suited to the matter and its current position.

How we can help

Understanding the decision

We examine the facts, the authority’s reasoning and the appeal information provided. We compare them with the documents already submitted and explain which issues need clarification before you decide on a course of action with the team.

Alzada and reconsideration

We consider an alzada appeal where the decision does not end the administrative route, or optional reconsideration where applicable. These are different remedies: the choice depends on the decision and applicable rules, rather than a fixed sequence of steps.

Extraordinary review

If the decision is already final at administrative level, we assess whether a statutory ground for extraordinary review may apply. We organise the background and any new material you provide to assess its relevance before proposing this remedy.

Preparation and next steps

We agree the scope of the review and written submission, identify supporting evidence and explain the alternatives. We also consider whether you need advice on the effects of the decision or on a possible challenge before the courts.

Frequently asked questions

Must I request reconsideration before going to court?

Not always. Optional reconsideration is a choice; the decision and procedure need to be reviewed before selecting a route.

Does an appeal automatically suspend the decision?

Generally, no. We separately assess whether suspension should be requested and on what grounds, taking account of the rules governing the matter.
