Before choosing a destination
Spain, France or Italy: what to check before moving
Start with where you want to live and what you plan to do. Then compare the procedures and prepare the questions that could change your decision.
- Your circumstances
- Citizenship and current residence
- Your plans
- Activity, family and destination
- Your timing
- Arrival and intended duration
Citizenship and residence are different starting points
EU citizenship gives access to free movement rights. Residence beyond three months may involve conditions and formalities depending on your circumstances. If you are joining an EU family member, check that route too. EU residence rights
Without EU citizenship, the permit you hold matters. A Spanish residence permit does not, by itself, authorise you to settle or work in France or Italy. Some categories have mobility routes with their own requirements. Moving to another EU country
Compare specific plans, as well as countries
Write a short outline for each option: city, activity, people moving and intended dates. A job offer, admission to a course or a change of destination may change your starting point.
Consider immigration, housing, healthcare and tax separately. Prepare a question for each area; an answer about your permit will not settle every part of the move.
When your plans begin or continue in Spain
You may be choosing your first European home or already living in Spain. Explain the ties you will keep here and the decision you need to make. Our immigration services in Spain are a useful starting point.
Does your next move connect Spain with another country?
Tell us about your plans and their connection with Spain. Before you engage us, we will explain which part MEDLA can review and which questions belong with the destination country.
